Gas Separation Lab Services

Quantachrome Instrument’s contract lab, LabQMC, offers analytical services for gas storage measurements of materials. High pressure isotherms and kinetics can be measured up to a pressure of 200 bar for gases such as H2, CO2, CH4, N2, O2, and others up to temperatures of 400 °C. Single component high pressure isotherms of different gases can be used to determine selectivity of a material or to evaluate the ultimate capacity of a material for storing the gas of interest at the application’s pressure. For example, carbon dioxide storage capacities are of particular importance for the field of carbon capture and storage (CCS). Customer specifies outgassing conditions.

Analytical services for dynamic adsorptive separations are also provided by LabQMC. Breakthrough curves can be measured on a packed bed of material using mixtures of gases such as N2, Ar, CO2, CH4, H2, and O2 to obtain information about material selectivity and/or sorption capacity. Applications of dynamic packed bed breakthrough experiments include the after-treatment of exhaust gases, carbon dioxide removal processes, purification of natural gas, and air separation. Submitted samples must be in pelletized form (to eliminate negative effects of back-pressure) and at least 100 mL of sample must be provided. Customer specifies sample preparation conditions, analysis temperature, pressure, flow rate, and gas mixture concentrations.
