Water Sorption Measurement

Water Sorption Lab Services

Quantachrome Instruments contract lab, LabQMC, offers analytical services for measurement of water sorption and uptake capacity using either vacuum-volumetric or gravimetric (dynamic vapor sorption, or DVS) techniques. Complete adsorption and desorption measurements can be performed on your sample. Quantitative uptake of water as a function of relative pressure/relative humidity is readily obtained. If heat of adsorption or adsorption enthalpy is of interest, experiments can be performed at multiple temperatures to determine these properties. Water sorption can also be used to determine relative hydrophobicity of different samples. Even hydrophobic samples can adsorb moisture from the vapor phase at higher relative pressures! LabQMCs team of expert scientific personnel is available at any time to discuss your application, materials, and analysis needs prior to measurement and to expertly assist in data interpretation after measurements have been completed.

Vacuum-Volumetric Water Sorption Measurements

Water sorption isotherms can be obtained in the temperature range from -20 C to 100 C using a vacuum-volumetric technique of concentrated water vapor. Customer provides the sample preparation and outgassing conditions when submitting the samples or they can beselected by our team of experts based on material type. Customer also provides the analysis temperature.

Gravimetric Water Sorption Measurements (DVS)

Dynamic vapor sorption (DVS) lab services can be performed for water vapor sorption in the temperature range from 12 C to 80 C. Customer provides the desired analysis temperature. Sorption kinetics can also be obtained using this technique. Samples can be pre-dried in situ at up to 85 C in a flow of dry gas. Mass change as a function of increasing relative humidity is directly measured. Information about deliquescence of salts as well as crystallization phenomena can also be obtained.

Vapor Sorption Measurement

Vapor Sorption Lab Services

Vapor sorption analysis can be performed using a wide variety of organic vapors (alcohols, alkanes, aromatics, etc.) in the temperature range from -20 C to 100 C using a vacuum-volumetric technique of concentrated organic vapor. Customer provides the sample preparation and outgassing conditions when submitting the samples or they can be selected by our team of experts based on material type. Customer also provides the analysis temperature.
